| I‘m beginning to believe what I hear about "life gets better as you get older". I am so excited that it’s almost here: the 2007 Master National. I talked with my three co-judges recently to find they are also very excited and looking forward to a great week. It looks like we have 327 dogs entered. The September 2007 MNRC newsletter is now on the www.masternational.com page. From what it says, Virginia is doing the same dance that we are doing in Florida and Georgia - the Bring on Rain dance! As you will see, VA is suffering with a drought as "There is a shortage of training grounds with wet ponds. Many ponds are bone dry." Be sure to read the newsletter at http://www.masternational.com/news/September%202007.PDF. The 2008 nominated judges and the proposed bylaw amendments have been outlined. Two THRC members were nominated to judge the 2008 event — Sara Wonnell from Palm City, FL (Region 1), and Randall Ayers from Buhl, AL (Region 2). The regions are identified by time zones. Good Luck to both of you! The 2008 event is being hosted by a club in Minnesota so I am thinking that the event will be earlier next year. A couple reminders: ● Club members are guests of Borderline and it is a privilege offered to the members of the THRC to train on Borderline. The members must ensure that the members take care of the property. The grounds are for registered club members only. We try to keep the membership page updated at all times so if you have any questions remember you can call or e-mail me. ● During September through April, training is allowed only at the Field of Dreams (also known as training ponds) on Saturday and Sunday unless noted. This includes the immediate grass area surrounding the training ponds. ● If traveling to VA for Master National, contact your veterinarian NOW to protect your dogs against tick diseases. Go to the THRC website to read suggestions from Dr. Beckey Malphus in the Aug-Sept newsletter or the June 2007 Master National newsletter regarding VA’s tick problem. Happy Training ~ Sam |

![]() | Q: I've heard it's a good idea to have a pet first-aid kit, but what should be in it? A: It's best to be prepared in a pet emergency. Always have the basics on-hand—latex gloves, adhesive tape, a nylon leash, towel, pediatric rectal thermometer and rubbing alcohol. It's also handy to have a baby dose syringe or an eyedropper for giving medication. Keep a list of emergency numbers, including your pet's veterinarian, an after hours emergency veterinary hospital and the National Animal Poison Control Center (1-800-548-2423). Remember, first aid is only the first step. Your veterinarian should treat all injuries beyond minor scrapes and scratches. |
