Dear Club Members and Guests,
Sept - Oct 2007

I want to thank Tallahassee Hunting Retriever Club again for sponsoring me to judge the Master National Hunt Test in Virginia. It was a wonderful experience! I met so many great people and saw some wonderful working dogs. We were up at 5:00 AM, at the test sight by 7:00 and would not leave the grounds till 6:30 PM daily. Master A was always running behind the other test because of the excessive no-birds (38) at our second test. On Saturday (the sixth day), I wore my Florida State baseball hat for the Miami game. (MN gives you a different sponsor hat to wear daily) so I had to do some fast talking. Judging the “MASTER NATIONAL” was truly a labor of love and something I will always remember fondly. I hope all the participants had as enjoyable a time as me.

THRC Spring Hunt Test is going to be March 15 & 16. The 2008 Master National judges are coming to judge Master for us. It should be a fun weekend; I think that we will attract a lot of Newsletter Spotlight handlers and dogs at this time of year because of all the people that winter down here.

This is your club and I want your opinions on a couple of things. Please send an e-mail to THRC@comcast.net and answer the following two questions:

•Would you like for it to be a THRC tradition to invite the following year’s Master National Judges to come judge our spring test? Why? Why not?

•Do you want to host a double Master Fall 2008? Please give explanations for your decision.

Club members remember it is quail season. We can only use the Training Pond and the field around the Training ponds at this time. We are guests at Borderline and Springhill Plantations and do not want to get in the way of the hunters. You may see others using additional grounds to train. A number of pro-handlers have assigned areas and days to use the grounds while they winter in the Thomasville area. If you have any questions please e-mail me at SAM.FERGUSON@fldoe.org or call me at 850-877-6974 or 850-508-8026.

I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday! ~Sam
